Orange, California Restaurant Reviews

Mad Greek Restaurant – Stanton

Growing up in Stanton (the city no one in Orange County knows) I was fortunate enough to go a the Mad Greek many times.  In fact the Mad Greek will always hold a very special place in my heart as the restaurant I’ve patronized the longest.  One of the greatest things about this place is that it’s been owned by the same family since it first opened about 30 years ago.  It really is a hidden gem in the city that no one knows.

For my visit I had to get what I consider one of the greatest burgers every created.  Long before I ever had my first bacon cheese burger I had an Onassis Burger ($5.69), 1 beef patty with melted cheese topped with just the right amount of pastrami.  I think this burger is why I love pastrami so much.

And every visit to the Mad Greek must include the best fried zucchini (small order $2.99) you will find anywhere, in fact they hold the claim to bringing about the fried zucchini crazy itself, and I honestly don’t question it because I can remember them saying that for at least 20 years.  Served with freshly prepared tzatziki, which for those not in the know is a Greek cucumber yogurt sauce.  You have to try the zucchini with the sauce, it is so much better than crappy old ranch.

Back when I was in high school I used to get their gyro’s a lot, I highly suggest trying them, they are made the way they should be with shaved meat off a vertical rotisserie.

If its’ a nice day outside you can enjoy the patio that is currently covered with fruiting grapevines.

This is a continuing Eat in OC Feature of the OC Burger Brigade.
