2009 Eat in OC Year in Review Part 2

Yesterday I shared the list of restaurants I reviewed in 2009.  Today I will wrap up the year with my hits and misses of the year, along with some other bits of information.

Haven Gastropub

Hits of 2009
Just for traffic alone I have to include Perfect Circle Cupcakery. Although I didn’t find much special with their cupcakes it generated the most traffic and comments of the year.
Our visit to Slater’s 50/50 for the first of two Food Frenzy Foodie Feasts with the guys from Food Frenzy over at the Orange County Register.
Costa Mesa Omelette Parlor was probably my biggest surprise of the year, good breakfast that was cheap and fast!
Which Wich impressed me with the way they make making sandwiches your way, although the location and the choices might turn some away.
Haven Gastropub for the best new restaurant of 2009 that I visited.  The food is great, the owners are really nice, they have an awesome beer selection, it’s just overall great.  I do hope to do a real review eventually.
Five Guys strictly for the mention by Nancy of the Fast Food Maven blog at the Orange County Register of them coming to Orange!

Misses of 2009

Kimmie's Coffee Cup - Outside Seating

Kogi Korean BBQ was the biggest thing in 2009 and I finally got to check them out in late October.  Unfortunately I just didn’t feel they stood up to all the hoopla I heard all year.  But they were better than the clone Baja Fresh Gogi Tacos I tried in Irvine months before getting a chance at the real thing.
I tried Jersey Mike’s a couple times throughout the year and can’t say they made an impression, although I didn’t do a review of it, I’m warning anyone not to have their pastrami reuben,  it’s not good…
Kimmie’s Coffee Cup for the bad service we got, and for fishy reviews on Urbanspoon.

As for my favorite meal of the year, it’s a place I didn’t do a review of, but it’s the long time celebration restaurant my family and I would go to growing up, Chris’ & Pitt’s.  We had a great meal there early in the year with family and friends, and not only was the food as good as I always remember it, it’s fairly inexpensive, and the service was very attentive to our group of 12.

Thank you all for a wonderful 2009, I wish you all a safe and Happy New Year and look forward to 2010!
