Here is a question out to our readers. Who actually likes Belgium Waffles? And why have they become the go to waffle in American breakfast cuisine? I ask this because my wife Mrs. DanGarion loathes them and I’m not particularly a big fan of them either. Just about every restaurant in Southern California’s rendition of waffles is of the Belgium variety. I realize that there are some places that actually make the tried and true real waffle, such as Bruxie and Roscoe’s House of Chicken and Waffles, but that is where my knowledge of great waffles ends. Even my favorite weekend breakfast spots The Filling Station and Arthur’s Family Restaurant (both in Orange) basically fail the waffle test with Belgiums, although I’m willing to forgive Arthur’s because they do pair them with chicken.
So what say you readers, what type of waffles do you like? And where can someone go to get real waffles, not thick doughy things?
