Eat in OC Takes on Austin, Texas! Part 6

Being that I was in Austin I knew one of my nights had to be spent checking out 6th street, I wasn’t sure where to eat so I took the suggestion of one of my online friends to check out Casino El Camino, a dark punky little dive bar on the East end of 6th street. Casino El Camino is known for their awesome music selection on their jukebox and I have to agree I really enjoyed all the music being played during my visit. In addition they are known for two food specialties Verde Chili Fries and HUGE 3/4 pound burgers. Even though it was just me I knew I had to partake in them both.

The burger I ordered was called the Amarillo Burger ($7.50), 3/4 pounds of freshly ground handmade patty Angus beef topped with roasted Serrano chiles, jalapeno jack cheese, and cilantro mayonnaise. The burger was awesome and although on the flat-iron grill it looked huge it didn’t seem so big once I started chowing down. If you have been following me for a while you know I’m not a big cilantro fan, but it wasn’t overpowering in the mayo and it helped cool down the heat from the roasted Serranos. Then there was the bun, the type I would love to have with every burger I eat, it was toasted and just perfect.

The Verde Chili Fries came as a huge order of fries topped our own tomatillo verde salsa (made in-house from a can) and melted cheese. I really wanted to love this but it just didn’t do much for me. Maybe it was because I couldn’t find the cheese, or maybe it was because the burger was just so damn good I didn’t really eat much of it, but it just didn’t hit the spot.
