If my memory serves me right I had Byblos for lunch years back when I used to work in Orange, but this was the first time to try their breakfast. Byblos is a Mediterranean and Middle Eastern cafe that serves breakfast, lunch and dinner Thursdays thru Sunday, and only breakfast and lunch Monday thru Wednesdays. I’m not even going to attempt to act like I know what I had the last time I was there, I’m just going to show and tell what I had this visit.
When the waiter asked me for my order, I wasn’t sure what to get so I asked him what was good and he suggested the Lebanese Breakfast. The Lebanese breakfast is two eggs cooked in olive oil sprinkles with what I think was paprika, with a side of foul mudammas and a creamy schmear of labni. What is foul mudammas and labni you ask? Foul mudammas is an Egyptian dish of cooked and mashed fava beans served with olive oil, chopped parsley, onion, garlic, and lemon juice, while labni is a fresh creamy cheese made with yogurt.
Since it was served with a pita I decided to just cut the eggs up and top torn off pieces of pita with a bit of everything, this was the perfect way to savor all the flavor that each item brings to the table, the sourness from the foul mudammas plays well with the creamy labni and eggs yolks. Overall it was a very nice breakfast for a quiet morning in Orange Plaza. By the way if you haven’t checked out the new Old Towne Farmers and Artisans Market on Saturday mornings I highly suggest it!
Service was friendly, and they have outside seating for those that would like to enjoy some fresh air.
