Dinah’s Family Restaurant – Los Angeles

Dinah’s Family Restaurant in Los Angeles has been around for years, heck they claim themselves as a Los Angeles Landmark. I can even remember seeing the chicken buckets in a couple different movies. One of the offices for my day job happens to be right next door so I have been to Dinah’s a couple times throughout the years for business meals. Considering the fact that I tend to be every early and just end up sitting around for whatever brings me to the LA Office I decided to have breakfast there a couple of weeks ago.

One of my favorite one in a blue moon breakfasts I like to enjoy I like to enjoy are Chicken and Waffles, seeing it on the menu called to me and forced me to play my cards and order it. Unfortunately it was a mistake to do this. Maybe it was because I got there too early but my chicken came out about 10-15 minutes after my waffle arrived in front of me. From the start of my meal everything was a bit off. As you might be able to tell from the picture, the waffle appeared to be over cooked. It was just too crunchy for me, plus if you have been following Eat in OC for any length of time you know I hate Belgian Waffles, but I’m willing to sacrifice for the pleasure of my readers.

As I mentioned 10-15 minutes after my waffle arrived (I had finished half of it by then) my two chicken breasts flew in. Two piping hot chicken breasts in front of me with a cold waffle, make for an annoying meal when you desire to eat them together. So I did what I always do with my chicken I grabbed my fork and knife and tore off all the meat and breading from the bones. This accomplishes two things, it helps the chicken cool down, helps me keep from getting my hands greasy. It also makes it easier to combine my maple “flavored” syrup waffle with my chicken for one of the ultimate forbidden breakfasts Chicken and Waffles. The chicken is decent but it’s not really anything amazing, it’s just broasted chicken.

Overall my meal was a disappointment. Fortunately my waitress was as efficient as she could be considering the issue with the food arrival times. Please don’t think I hate the traditional American style Coffee Shop, because it is something I really love and hate to see go away, but if you are looking for a food landmark in LA you’d be better off looking somewhere else. So far I’m 0 for 2 with my visits to LA Food Landmarks (see our Original Pantry Cafe review)…
