Eat Chow – Costa Mesa

Even though I had meant to visit Eat Chow in Costa Mesa long ago, I only just was able to visit and try their amazing breakfast recently.  I enjoyed it so much that I insisted that Mrs. DanGarion had to try it this weekend.  Of course I had an ulterior motive I wanted to check out The Meat House, which is also in Costa Mesa.  Eat Chow serves up an assortment of both American and Mexican meals using a number of local food items if possible.

On my first visit to Eat Chow I ordered one of their breakfast specials, Country Gravy on Peasant Bread.  The gravy had a slight sweet taste mixed with sausage that worked perfect with the bread, and was the perfect dipping sauce for the perfectly cooked potatoes.

This past Sunday, Mrs. DanGarion went out of her comfort bubble and ordered Oatmeal Pancakes with Berry Compote.  The pancakes were thick and flavorful hit a hit of oatmeal, the fresh berry compote was a mixture of blueberries, black berries, and strawberry.  Although she doesn’t typically like think pancakes or blueberries she was very satisfied with the meal.

Those of you that have followed me for awhile know my affinity for Chilaquiles, so when I noticed them on the menu I decided they were a must try on this visit!  The chips were from local El Toro Bravo Tortilleria which really added to the depth of the meal.  The mix of ranchera sauce, avocado, cotija cheese, sour cream, and perfectly cooked eggs really hit the spot.  I also enjoyed the side of black beans, which mixed well as I cleaned my plate.

Service was great on both visits with our waiters being very attentive and showing general interest in our well-being and our opinions about the food.  We both declared that we would definitely come back again.  And now after trying breakfast here I’m much more interested in trying both lunch and dinner meals (as if I wasn’t already).

As for the meat house, we got some freshly ground beef that I turned into burgers.  I spoke with one of the clerks there about getting a specific mix of ground beef in the future and he said it wouldn’t be a problem at all, I just need to call a day in advance to make it easier for them to get it ready for me.

Visit on Saturday 07/17/10 for breakfast at 8:00 AM and Sunday 07/25/10 for breakfast at 8:00 AM
