As many of you know, I’m a fan of Haven Gastropub in Orange. It’s my go to location for food and beer when I’m celebrating something and I have the choice of where we go. So when I heard they were going to be celebrating their 3rd Anniversary by finally tapping their own beer at the Orange location I told Mrs. DanGarion we were going! Things started a little slow since they were serving a special menu that included items from Haven in Pasadena as well as Taco Asylum, plus it was packed with people wanted to try brewmaster David Larsen’s beer creations.
Talking about beer creations I went with a sampler of 4 beers (samples ranged from $2-5).
After a bit of a wait the beer and the food we ordered finally came (I only mention this because our waitress disappeared for nearly an hour and we ended up being helped by one of the owners, the awesome Will Dee and another waiter)
I’ll leave the beer reviews to the experts, but I enjoyed the Hafen Hef as well as the Brewmaster’s Breakfast.
I ordered the Fried Pig Ears tossed with tangerine & fresno chili glaze and nearly scarfed the whole order down myself. Mrs. DanGarion wasn’t adventurous enough to try them but I loved crunchy goodness.
For our meal we ordered burgers from the Burger Haven menu (you will not find these burgers in Orange, click on the link to find out more about them). Mrs. DanGarion opting for the Shake n’ Bake (mary’s free range chicken, coated in corn flakes, pan-fried, topped with rosemary mashed potatoes, gravy, braised collard greens, and honey mustard on a jalapeño-habañero bun $9) and I ordering the McCormick Alley (paso prime grassfed beef, grafton 2 yr aged cheddar, bacon stout jam, butter lettuce, house sauce $10)
After a quick taste of the honey mustard on her burger the Mrs. decided she wanted my burger instead!
I really liked the taste and quality of the Shake n’ Bake and would order this many times again if they served it in Orange. The chicken breast was super moist and perfect and all the toppings made flavor party in my mouth that can’t be described.
Mrs. DanGarion liked the McCormick Alley burger and wishes that executive chef Greg Daniels brings it to Orange so her husband brings her more often…
Overall it was a fun night of beer and food that pleased the pallet and filled our stomachs!
