After reading a review from Jeff Overly of the Orange County Register’s Food Frenzy Blog about Mariscos Puerto Esperanza in Orange I decided to try them out last week. Overall the food was alright. I ordered the Pibil Pork which came with green rice and beans. The pork was topped with pickled red onions and diced tomatoes, and served along with tortillas, so I ate it as I would eat carnitas. The chips were interesting, they weren’t freshly made and they had a different consistency that I’m used to seeing in restaurants, but the thin salsa was decent, although I wished it had more chunks to it. The rice was ok, while the beans lacked much flavor at all. The pork on the other hand was quite good, the pickled onions mixed well as I filled my torn off tortilla bits.
The entrées were presented very well and the dining was actually more elegant than the price would make you think. But everything was a bit off, from the fact that they serve you cans of soda, to the chips, to the sides included with the entrée, but the pork almost made up for all that.
Service was OK, but they weren’t too busy for my late lunch at around 1:30 PM on a Friday.
