Well since my last review of BBQ closed the place down (Scottie’s Smokehouse) let’s start things back up with BBQ from Blake’s Place in Anaheim. As most of you know I consider Blake’s Place the BBQ restaurant of Orange County, it’s the closest to what you will find in Texas and many other states known for BBQ. My main experience at Blake’s has been with their pork ribs, since I’m more of a pork rib fan. My recent visit to Austin proved that beef ribs can be equally as delicious so I ventured out into the cold (high 40s!) last week to feast on some beef and pork ribs from Orange Counties best BBQ restaurant.
Ordering the Beef Rib and Pork Spare Rib plate ($14.99 or $16.99 for Baby Back Ribs instead) you get an 3 good-sized beef ribs, 4 pork ribs, and sides of beans, cole slaw, and bread.
Overall it was a really good filling meal. I ordered my ribs dry with no sauce and enjoyed the nuanced flavors of smoke, seasonings, and what I think was apple juice they use during the smoking and cooking process. Beans are great, in fact I think they are some of the best beans outside of my own personal secret recipe. Cole slaw is solid, not too sweet, not too dry. The bread lacks any crunch and I just use it to dip into BBQ Sauce.
If you haven’t checked out Blake’s Place you are kidding yourself if you think you know BBQ and need to be initiated into the real world of smoked meat and BBQ.
