Back in April a new restaurant opened up in Old Towne Orange called Henry’s Grill, Plaza 1forty9 Cafe is the name now and it seems they have done a good job dealing with their growing pains.  I had been hesitant to check out Henry’s Grill since I know that new restaurants have to be given some time for them to work out their kinks, so we waited.  I’m glad the wait was over because now we can report back that whatever Plaza 1forty 9 is doing, they are doing it right.

It was Mrs. DanGarion’s choice for dinner and she made the suggestion of going here for one of our dinners during our recent vacation.  She had the Quarter Chicken ($7.49), which came served with one side and pita bread. For her side Mrs. DanGarion opted for their house fries which are tossed with white truffle olive oil, garlic, parsley, and sea salt.

Felling a little on the healthy side I decided to go with the Dogzilla ($11.99), a bacon wrapped hot dog topped with pastrami, spicy mustard, onion, tomato, hot peppers, and cheese, with an order of house fries.

We both agreed that the food was great.  She loved the taste of the chicken, and although the illusion that they make their garlic fries fresh in-house was dashed when we say a worker carrying out a box that said “garlic fries” on it out to the trash, it didn’t put a damper on how good the fries were especially since you can tell they spruce them up.  I was very satisfied with my hot dog, it had a casing that gave a good snap when you bit into it, and I loved the addition of three of my favorite ingredients, bacon, pastrami, and cheese, my only complaint and it’s not even that, is that there was so much stuff on the Dogzilla that I couldn’t eat it like a hot dog.  But I won’t fault them for that!

Service was exceptional and our waiter even took the time to explain some of their menu items when he found out it was our first time there.  I only hope that the service is just as exceptional when they are busy.  Overall it was a great food experience that we are both looking forward to again, soon.  There is a hamburger with my name on it, the Goliath, kobe beef, piled pastrami, lettuce, tomato, cheese, 1000 island dressing, served on toasted sourdough.
