Rooster Cafe – Costa Mesa – REVIEW #100!

Wow this is the 100th review for Eat in OC, talk about an accomplishment!  Rooster Cafe in Costa Mesa is a worthy choice for my 100th review (not to mention the first restaurant name to start with the letter R).  Why is Rooster Cafe worthy you ask?  Well because this is the third time I’ve tried to write a review!Rooster Cafe - Counter My previous 2 reviews of Rooster Cafe were never posted because I accidentally deleted the pictures, but not this time!  Rooster Cafe doesn’t make any amazing dishes or any snooty food, they just make sandwiches and the like and they taste good.

Rooster Cafe - The RandolphI ordered the Randolph, which is a turkey, bacon, and avocado sandwich served on ciabatta bread ($6.99).  The bread is a much softer version of ciabatta then I’m used to but it’s much better that way, because it’s not too chewy.  The sandwich comes with just about the right amount of all the ingredients noo too much turkey meat like some places, but if I could change one thing I’d like a bit more avocado.  The Mrs. ordered the BLTA ($6.49) which is a bacon, lettuce, tomato, and avocado sandwich served on thick slices of toasted sourdough.  Both sandwiches are served with mayo and yellow mustard.  The sandwiches also come with red onion that is sliced very thin to not overpower the other ingredients.  Don’t get me wrong this isn’t gourmet eats but the sandwiches here really hit the spot and are near perfect.  On previous visits I’ve had the breakfast burrito which is one of the best I’ve have in recent memory.  If you don’t feel like getting a soda, or their great fresh brewed tea (which has lemon slices floating in it), make sure you have some of the lemon infused water, which hits the spot.Rooster Cafe - BLTA

Service always seems to be good, but there isn’t much to it since they just take your order at the counter and bring the food to your table, but everyone is nice there.  It was enjoyable watching all the trendy kids that are trying to be cool and individuals walk over to the American Apparel store’s sidewalk sale, because all of them looked exactly alike.

The Rooster Cafe is also the home of Boqueria’s a tapas restaurant, Thursday – Saturday 5:30 PM -11:00 PM.  Check out the recent review by Edwin Goei at O.C. Weekly!
