Orange, California Restaurant Reviews

The Lime Truck

So this morning I went to the Old Towne Orange Farmers and Artisans Market to pick up some bread and veggies, but while I was there I also picked up lunch from one of the premiere Orange County food trucks, The Lime Truck. If you aren’t familiar with The Lime Truck and live in Orange County you probably have been living under a rock. Heck The Lime Truck is a national star even, since they won the Great Food Truck Race #2 on Food Network a couple of months back. Those of you that have been following Eat in OC for a while probably know I’m not really big on food trucks, due to the fact that I haven’t had many great experiences with them. In my opinion there is Dos Chinos, a couple decent ones, and then mediocre ones like Kogi. But considering The Lime Trucks victory in the Great Food Truck race, and ignoring the thoughts in my head that the guys acted so douchey on that show I decided to see what all the buzz is about.

Being that I had just ate lunch a couple of hours beforehand I ordered light and went with the PBLT (Pork Belly, Lettuce, and Tomato, $8), Parmesan crusted sourdough bread with marinated pork belly, topped with arugula, tomato, red onions, and some type of supped up mayo. It was a party of flavors in my mouth that has rekindled my interest in gourmet food trucks and is probably one of the best bites I’ve had to eat all year.

I do have one minor issue with the sandwich and this is just coming from the perspective of where they were serving their food at (and I don’t know if it would have worked logistically). Their choice of bread disappointed me, they used normal off the shelf sourdough bread for the sandwich instead of using the amazingly awesome bread from the OC Baking Company that sells their bread right at the market. I don’t know if they use any ingredients from the farmers market but it would have been nice to see that type of local use of ingredients. As for produce I don’t know if it was bought at the market or somewhere else. But regardless of my one little issue the sandwich was a little bit of heaven.

As for the service and the guys working the truck, they seemed nice but none of them appeared to be the guys that were on the show (the owner or the driver) I know one of the chefs/owners (Jason Quinn) has left and opened up his own restaurant now (Playground) and they have two trucks so this might have been the second crew. Overall this was a great sandwich and I highly recommend that if you see The Lime Truck in your area check them out, and most definitely order yourself a PBLT, you will NOT be let down.
