The only problem with Break of Dawn in Laguna Hills is that up until we went there last week, we hadn’t realized that we were missing out on what is quite possibly the best breakfast in all of Orange County. I’ve read all the reviews, and seen all the pictures, but until the food was on our plate and then in our bellies I didn’t know that breakfast could be this good. Don’t get me wrong, I love breakfast, I eat it every day, in fact Mrs. DanGarion and I either have a very good breakfast over at our usual (The Filling Station) or we cook breakfast ourselves. We aren’t planning on changing our routine, but we are planning on visiting Break of Dawn from time to time, so we can experience happiness on a plate.
Even though I’d read the reviews about the awesomeness of Break of Dawn and the recommendations of others, we decided to just figure out what we wanted on our own. I choose the Corned Beef ($12) consisting of sweet potato hash, poached eggs, tarragon cabbage, and mustard sauce. Every single piece of the meal mingled perfectly with each other, I found myself nearly licking the plate when I finished.
Mrs. DanGarion opted for the Skillet ($11), roasted new potatoes, bacon, cheddar poached eggs, guacamole (without the chipotle sour cream). The potatoes were magnificently cooked in a way I had never thought was possible, so creamy yet with the perfect amount of crunch on the outside. And the poached eggs… Oh the poached eggs were cooked to medium doneness perfection. This is what dreams of breakfast is made of.
Everything was just how it should taste, and that is why we aren’t going to change our routine. A breakfast like that at Break of Dawn’s must be appreciated, and the only real way to do that is to visit their in moderation! As the saying goes, ‘Absence makes the heart grow fonder’.

I went here a few months ago and, though my parents had told me the cinnamon rolls are amazing (which I did opt for), everything else was just so much better. The eggs benedict was sublime and the tempura fried eggs were amazing – but it wasn’t just the tempura egg, it was the salad which most places would just write off underneath the eggs that, when eaten with the eggs, brought the whole plate together. I believe my dad got the hash which he ate every last bite of, and if it weren’t so darn far away, I’d be there much more often. Simply an amazing breakfast spot.
I can’t wait till we go back there, planning on taking my parents the next trip. Dee Nguyen does such a great job. I’m almost afraid to go back so I don’t get a let down after hyping it up so much in my mind since the first visit!
$12 , $11 dollars for breakfast? What’s your secret in this economy? I can maybe, I say maybe pay that price if maybe you were on a honeymoon, or a once in a lifetime vacation, but to pay that much for a local joint I’d have to file a 5150 H&S report on you. (If you know any cops or firemen, they’ll know what I mean ha ha ha).
I’d rather pay for a good breakfast than lunch. But I guess that is just me. Maybe I’ve been desensitized by having breakfast for so long at The Filling Station in Orange and Arthur’s. Show me somewhere I can get a good breakfast for cheaper. Break of Dawn is not just some local joint, trust me. Try it before you knock the price, this food is not found anywhere else in OC.
