Last week I participated in the Food Frenzy Foodie Fest Part Deux at Lou’s Red Oak BBQ in Huntington Beach.
You may remember our previous visit to Slater’s 50/50 for the 1st Food Frenzy Foodie Fest. Unfortunately Mrs. DanGarion wasn’t able to attend so I just ended up going stag, but nonetheless I still had a good time, talking food among other things with the other foodies that attended. Lou’s Red Oak specializes in Santa Maria style BBQ using a rotisserie oven with red oak. Their specialties include: rotisserie roasted Tri-tip, Whole Chicken, Linguica Sausage, Pork, Turkey, and BBQ Ribs.
For my meal I had the Rib combo, which comes with spare ribs and your choice of chicken, tri-tip, or linguica, I chose the cinnamony cumin linguica. For my sides I had corn on the cob and sweet potato fries. The star of my meal was the linguica that had such a unique flavor of cinnamon and cumin it was very unexpected but every one that had some agreed it was great. The ribs were ok, very juicy but seemed to lack much depth. My sides did a good job of complementing my meal. I had a taste of the tri-tip and really liked it, I was very tender and juicy sort of how prime rib would be, not the typical tri-tip you would get at a BBQ restaurant. I also took a slice of cherry pie home to my wife and she enjoyed it.
Service was excellent, from our waitress to the owner Lou everyone was just really nice.
I had a really good time at Lou’s and a lot of that had to do with the company, Jeff and Niyaz are great hosts. I really enjoyed talking to Jim and Shirley about different restaurants they visit around the Orange/Santa Ana area. I also had a great conversation with Jeff’s wife Heather about the antique shops in and around Old Towne Orange. I’m looking forward to #3!
Visit on Friday 11/06/09 @6:30 PM for dinner.
