Slater’s 50/50 – Anaheim Hills

So last night I was fortunate enough to not only be in the company of my wife Mrs.DanGarion but also both Jeff and Niyaz from Food Frenzy, as well as a couple other fans of their blog, as we all went out and enjoyed burgers from Slater’s 50/50 in Anaheim Hills.  The company was great, I really enjoyed meeting everyone.  Niyaz and Jeff are great guys and I’m looking forward to having dinner with them in the future.  The other couple bloggers were also really great, had some good conversations as we waited for everyone to arrive.  Even the Mrs. who was a little shy to come, said she had a great time and wants to do it again!

100_0759We started off our meal with an appetizer 2 pack of sweet potato fries and french fries ($5.45).  The sweet potato fries had a light dusting of breading to help hold them up, while the french fries were just fresh skin on medium cut fries.  The star of the show was the pumpkin dipping sauce that came with the sweet potato fries, everyone was impressed by the flavor, it was almost like you were dipping the sweet potato fries into a pumpkin pie!  The other two sauces of ranch and BBQ sauce must get jealous of the pumpkin sauce.

100_0764Mrs. DanGarion had one of their special burgers, called the Thanksgiving Dinner ($9.95), and yes it’s just like it sounds; a turkey burger piled on with stuffing, cranberry sauce, I think maybe some gravy, I can’t really remember all it had and they don’t have their menu online yet, so I’ll have to get her to comment and say what was on it.  I had a small taste of it, and it really did taste like Thanksgiving Dinner.  The Mrs. really liked it and ate over half of it, which considering the size is an accomplishment!

100_0769I went ahead and used their checklist menu, where you get to pick and choose the items you want on your burger (just like The Counter).  I choose the 50/50 burger which is a patty of 50% ground beef and 50% ground bacon!  Yes you heard that right GROUND BACON!  To top off the patty I got cheddar cheese, lettuce, onion straws, grilled onions, and baconnaise, which is a bacon infused mayonnaise.  the burger was really good, although I could taste the bacon in the patty it wasn’t overwhelmingly salty.  My only complaint (and it’s not even that) is that the burger was kind of dry, I probably should have put some mustard or something else on it to help, but that’s my own fault.  Everything went together really well, although I think I’d rather just get bacon on the burger in the future instead of the 50/50, you get more ‘bacon’ flavor and if the bacon falls off the burger you can just have bacon!

Niyaz ordered the Vampire Artichoke Garlic Dip (might not be the right name) that comes with garlic bread, and everyone had a taste, as it was being passed around the table you could smell the garlic.  The dip was really good, and I’m contemplating attempting a homemade version, just throw in a ton of garlic.  Also everyone was also to try some of their other fried goodness, fried pickles and artichoke hearts.  I thought the pickles were a really good although I don’t think I could eat a whole order of them.

All the staff at Slater’s 50/50 were really nice, they took good care of us.  From time to time a guy that I think was the owner or manager came by and checked to make sure everything was going well.  the restaurant is well lit, although I was having issues getting good pictures with my camera, as can be seen in my slide show.

We are looking forward to coming back in the near future.  I’m going to suggest to the Mrs. that we take my parents out to dinner there sometime soon.  Overall it was a great meal, with a great group of people, and we both had an awesome time.

Check out Niyaz”s post on Food Frenzy for more on our dinner!

(no star review due to the special nature of the dinner, but if I was to rate it I’d say a solid 4 out of 5 stars for the meal)
