Well if you were online earlier today, we broke the story about the Filling Station Cafe in Orange opening for dinner. Mrs. DanGarion and I were having lunch there and I had noticed they were putting in a bunch of lights outside, and then our favorite waitress mentioned that the new owners were going to have a soft launch tonight of their new dinner menu. My wife and I looked at each other and both said we had to come back for dinner. Now for those that haven’t been to the Filling Station I’m not going to lie, they don’t do anything new, nothing trendy, and nothing cutting edge, which is exactly why we like it. They have never tried to be the cool hip place, they just served very good comfort food breakfast and lunch, and it appears as though that will be their main focus after looking over their dinner menu. I took pictures of the full menu but unfortunately only the front side which includes appetizers, salads, and pizzas came out good enough to post. The menu is very safe, which I think is fine considering their breakfast and lunch menus are safe. We were impressed when we saw a Sesame House Chicken Salad came out with a huge mound what appeared to be freshly made crispy noodles or something on top. Pizza, Pasta, Meat, Seafood, Burgers and some others all have their place on the menu.
Mrs. DanGarion had the Grilled Tilapia ($12.99) while I ordered the Fried Chicken ($12.99), we both agreed that the food was good, although it can be improved upon, but I’m willing to forgive small mistakes on what was their opening night. Considering the many meals we have had there for both breakfast and lunch the last 6 years we have confidence that the hiccups in service we saw tonight will quickly be worked through as everyone learns the new menu.
We are looking forward to coming back in a couple of weeks when they are settled in and then I will give them a real Eat in OC review.
